Organized in 1954 with a beginning membership of 24 boys and girls. The VFW Lancers first entered into competition in 1963.

By 1968 the corps had been enlarged to 60 performing members. In Blue and gold uniforms they were led on the field by Drum Majors- Charles Cabbs, Ursaline Thomas and Marlyn D. Piper. Color Guard Commanders were Joyce Scott, Jacquelyn M. Talley, Marlene Harris and Gwendolyn Hart.
